Sun balm SPF50

Cana Care Sun Balm SPF50 is the ultimate product for anyone who wants to give their skin optimal protection from the sun while also protecting and caring for the skin's barrier.

Use Sun Balm SPF50 on particularly exposed areas, on irritated or damaged skin, where it, with a combination of squalane, hyaluronic acid and "the golden alga" (Laminaria), not only protects against the sun but actively helps the skin recover and retain its softness.

Although it's packed with protective fatty acids, we have ensured a texture that melts easily into the skin and forms an invisible, water-resistant shield. That makes it ideal for both play at the water's edge and for daily facial protection, where the skin needs both high sun protection and deep hydration.

Key ingredients

Squalane
Squalane is one of the skin's best friends, as it closely resembles the skin's own natural lipids. It acts as a silky barrier that seals moisture into the skin and helps rebuild the skin's natural protective layer. This makes the balm ideal for maintaining suppleness and counteracting dehydration in both sun and wind.

Butyrospermum Parkii Butter (Shea Butter)
Shea Butter is packed with nourishing fatty acids and vitamins that give the balm its rich, softening texture. It functions as a protective shield that soothes irritation and helps the skin repair itself. It is the perfect ingredient to give extra care to dry cheeks, noses and lips that need intensive treatment.

Laminaria Ochroleuca Extract (Golden Seaweed)
This unique seaweed extract acts like a small biological shield. It is known for its ability to protect skin cells from stress caused by the sun's rays and to reduce redness. By calming the skin's reaction to UV light, it helps keep the skin calm and resilient, even when the sun is highest.

Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid)
Hyaluronic Acid is a true moisture magnet that can bind water to the skin many times its own weight. Although the balm is water-free, the hyaluronic acid helps keep the upper skin layers "plump" and hydrated from within. This ensures that the skin is not only protected on the surface but also remains soft and fully moisturized throughout the day.

Usage

Apply a generous amount of sunscreen balm to areas that need extra protection. Because the balm is water-free and highly concentrated, a small amount goes a long way, but it is essential that the skin feels completely saturated and has a visible sheen after application.

As a rule of thumb, use an amount equivalent to a teaspoon for the face alone to achieve the stated sun protection.

Apply the balm well in advance, ideally 20–30 minutes before going out into the sun. Since the formula is rich in nurturing oils and waxes, it acts as a protective barrier that stays on the skin. However, when swimming or if you remain in the sun for an extended period, reapply frequently to maintain protection.

Be aware that the balm’s rich oil content can stain clothing, textiles, and other surfaces. Always allow the balm to fully absorb into the skin before it comes into contact with these.

I love your products.

I have bought quite a few of your products and am very happy with them all. Recently I purchased the sun range, which I have high expectations for. I use both the hand cream, the foot cream and the magnesium spray daily.

Lovely sunscreen

I was recently recommended an SPF 50 facial sunscreen by a skin clinic — I think this one is really good, though a bit thin…

Best sun balm I've tried

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a sunscreen lotion and a sun balm?

The biggest difference lies in the formulation. While a sun lotion is a light cream (an emulsion of water and oil) that is easy to spread over the whole body and absorbs quickly, our sun balm is 100% water-free. This makes it extremely concentrated and rich in nourishing ingredients like shea butter and squalane.

Because it is water-free, it forms a protective layer on the skin that not only blocks the sun’s rays but also actively helps to repair and rebuild the skin barrier. Cana Cares sun balm is your "specialist" for the areas that need extra intensive care and protection against drying out – both in the summer sun and in the winter cold.

Does Cana Cares sun care contain fragrance?

No, our entire sun range – including the sun balm – is 100% fragrance-free. It is essential to us that the products can be used by everyone, including those with very sensitive skin and the youngest members of the family, without risk of irritation or allergy.

What does it mean that the sun balm is water-repellent?

This means the balm is designed to stay on the skin even when you bathe, sweat, or play at the water’s edge. It creates a barrier that isn’t washed off immediately. However, we always recommend reapplying after a dip or if you’ve dried yourself with a towel, so you can be sure to maintain full protection throughout the day.

How much sunscreen should I use?

For full protection at SPF 50 you should use an even, opaque layer. Because the balm is often applied to "spots" (such as the nose, cheeks, ears, or scars), make sure the area feels saturated with the product. A good rule of thumb is to apply to the skin twice, in immediate succession, to reduce the risk of "holidays".

Remember that too little sun protection significantly reduces effectiveness.

Can children use Cana Cares sun balm SPF50?

Yes, absolutely! The sun balm is actually ideal for children because it’s so rich in nourishing ingredients, is fragrance-free, and stays put where it should. It’s perfect for little ones who often get red from the sun, or for the tip of the nose and the ears. The gentle formula ensures you can safely care for children’s delicate skin all year round.

Does your sunscreen contain the sun filter DHHB?

Yes, our sunscreens contain the UV filter DHHB, but they meet all requirements (and even exceed them). We know that this particular impurity in DHHB has received a lot of attention in cosmetics, and new legal requirements are being introduced regarding maximum levels in raw materials for cosmetic use. A limit is being added to the Cosmetics Regulation setting a maximum of 10 ppm DnHexP in DHHB raw materials – this limit comes from the SCCS, the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety, which includes, among others, many toxicologists with deep expertise in safety assessment. In our DHHB raw material there is a maximum of 1 ppm (that is, 1 in 1,000,000) DnHexP, so we therefore have a safety factor of 10 above the level the committee considers safe. Because we meet the limit (and more) and comply with the upcoming requirements, it is completely safe to use our products containing DHHB.

In addition, all our sunscreens are 100% fragrance-free, contain 0% endocrine-disrupting substances, and hold kolbe-A at Kemiluppen, so they are completely safe to use.

Why should you use sun protection?

The most important reason to use sun protection is to take care of your health and your skin in both the short and long term. The sun's UV rays can damage the cells' DNA, which in the worst case can lead to skin cancer (including melanoma). By using sunscreen every day, you protect your skin from the harmful rays.

At the same time, sun protection is the most effective way to prevent premature skin aging. UVA rays break down the skin's elasticity and collagen, causing deep wrinkles and pigmentation issues that could otherwise have been avoided.

Keep an eye on your skin - if it turns red, you have either used too low an SPF or too little sunscreen.

Protect yourself from the sun

Remember these three sun tips

Protect yourself from the sun when the UV index is 3 or higher with the three sun safety tips:

  • Shade
  • Sun hat
  • Sunscreen

Use sunscreen on areas not covered by clothing. The Danish Health Authority recommends a minimum SPF 30, both in Denmark and abroad. If you have sensitive or fair skin, you should generally choose a higher SPF.

Research shows

You get the best protection from your sunscreen if you apply it twice before going out into the sun. Because we often have "holidays" when applying sunscreen, it has been found that the risk of having areas that are not protected is reduced by 17% when you apply sunscreen twice in succession. In this way it also becomes easier to use sufficient amounts to achieve the desired sun protection factor.
