After more than a year of frustrations and difficult battles, on June 5th, 2024, we finally succeeded in registering Cana Care as a trademark throughout Europe. In simple terms, this means that we now have the official rights to be the sole developers and sellers of skincare products under the name Cana Care.
Cana's Story
It hasn’t been easy to get here, that much I can confidently say.
When I launched the first products under Cana Care back in early 2021, I hadn’t considered that the name was something I should trademark. “It was just my own name,” I thought. So, I did nothing—at least not with trademark registration.
Instead, I gave life to my third child and shortly after went through a serious battle with cancer—you can read more about that HERE if you’re interested—which is why I didn’t apply for a trademark in Denmark until a year later. It was a straightforward application that was approved within a few weeks.
It felt so easy—and now I felt secure.
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that just a year later, we would need to expand the geographical coverage to include the rest of Europe. But the order book spoke for itself: Danish customers loved the products, and the demand for shipments to several other countries began to grow.
Wiser from past experience, I confidently submitted an application in early 2023. And then everything went downhill. A large law firm filed an objection against our name. They claimed that the name Cana Care belonged to them (even though the company they represented was called something else—but somewhat related). Ouch.
I started by responding to the lawyers myself but quickly realized that heavier artillery was needed. I had to hire a lawyer. And not just any lawyer—we had to win! I allied myself with one of the top lawyers from the renowned Bech Bruun firm. And thank goodness I did! After emails, letters, settlement proposals, threats (from them, not us), and countless hours, conversations, and frustrations, we’ve finally made it to this point:
Cana Care—now a registered trademark throughout the EU.
